Introducing "Kick It Out"

Givat Haviva’s “Kick It Out program is a pioneering initiative founded by the New Israel Fund in the early 2000s, to deal with increasing phenomena of racism and violence on soccer fields. The program was inspired by the British model Kick It Out, in collaboration with the Football Association, the Players’ Association, UEFA, the international organization FARE, and more.

The program operates through the Jewish-Arab Peace Center at Givat Haviva. Anonymous volunteers document incidents at Premier League soccer games, with periodic reports produced and sent to regulators. The program coordinates an educational process to change the discourse through media and public sphere, organizing professional conferences and maintaining a professional and continuous dialogue with the various entities responsible for sports culture in Israel.

“Kick It Out” Conference | Israeli Soccer Walks a Thin Line

The Givat Haviva Center for Shared Society’s “Kick It Out” Conference returns for the second time.
Against the backdrop of one of the most violent, toxic, and charged seasons that Israeli soccer has ever known, the conference will address the burning social issues that threaten the spirit of the sport – racism, violence, homophobia – alongside the ongoing difficulties in dealing with these phenomena ethically, among the public, and in parliament.

The conference will bring together a variety of perspectives from the world of football – from the stands to the Knesset: players (current and former), referees, professionals, club representatives, the Football Association, fans, and elected officials – with the aim of jointly devising new and effective courses of action for the upcoming season.

Last year’s discussion drew sharp conclusions: Soccer in Israel still serves as a space for connection, even in difficult times of war, but at the same time it becomes a platform for incitement and destructive influence. A law prohibiting expressions of racism exists and even includes a penalty of up to two years in prison – but in practice it is not enforced. Many recommendations, including imposing personal sanctions, appointing a designated judge for sports matters, adjusting game times for families, improving accessibility and using advanced technologies – have remained on the discussion table only.

The question at the heart of the conference:
If these patterns continue – what can bring about real change this year?

The conference will take place at Givat Haviva on Monday, September 11, 2025, from 9 to 1:30.
More details coming soon.
