The Jewish-Arab Center for Peace at Givat Haviva is the oldest and largest center in the country promoting education for shared society, serving thousands of students, teachers, public activists, social leaders, and others, who take part in its various programs every year.
The “Connection for a Change” program is a two-day seminar (including an overnight stay at Givat Haviva) that brings together students from Jewish and Arab society.
During times of tension and division, hope grows through dialogue and true familiarity between people. In this spirit, “Connection for a Change” invites Jewish and Arab youth on a shared journey of understanding, tolerance, and hope, and offers a safe space for dialogue at eye level – a seminar in a spirit of leadership.
Program Goals:
The encounter provides ways to deal with Israel’s complex realities, while:
The meetings are facilitated by the experienced dialogue facilitators at the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace at Givat Haviva, the national leader in the field of education for shared living.
The Children Teaching Children (CTC) program has been running in Israeli schools for 34 years, during which groups of Jewish and Arab students meet at the Givat Haviva campus and in the schools , along with uni-national meetings for each group to support the process.
During the meetings, the students will look at the conflict from both side, will experience authentic dialogue between Jews and Arabs in Israel, and will acquire tools to construct their unique national identity, alongside a shared civil identity. The program was built on many years’ experience, along with ongoing reading of needs in the field and responding to the changing reality.
To create change and to influence the field of education.
The program prepares teachers for a multicultural meeting, during which a uni-national training will give them tools to develop the unity, empathy, and tolerance that will help them confront the day-by-day challenges presented by a society embroiled in ongoing conflict .
The training gives teachers knowledge and practices for developing the skills of dialogue. They will be exposed to models and theories to clarify and strengthen personal and professional identity and to expand into different perspectives on society.
During the training, participants will gain practical experience in simulations and classroom assignments, and acquire practical tools for dealing with racism and violence in the classroom. They will wrestle with concepts of racism, discrimination, power relations, and narrative and its significance in building the national identity of the different sides.
The program offers intercultural, interpersonal, and professional acquaintance between Jewish and Arab educators, connecting teaching staff in schools from Jewish and Arab society. The meeting contributes to understanding the various positions and needs, and enriches all sides.
Many years of experience have demonstrated that teachers who have undergone specialized training in the field of education for shared living have gone on to lead significant social processes and changes both inside and outside the classroom. Hence, the program sees educators as the most significant agents of change, who can lead a transformation in the field of promoting education for shared living.
We believe that teachers have the ability to bring about a change in their students’ relationship with the “other”, with an emphasis on dealing with racism and prejudice.
The program combines knowledge and practice, dealing with concepts such as racism, discrimination, power relations, and narrative and its significance in building the national identity of the various parties. Participants also receive practical experience in the form of simulations, practical classroom assignments, and the provision of practical tools for dealing with racism and violence in the classroom.

The Education Department at the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace in Givat Haviva develops and implements educational activities that promote equality, mutual recognition, cooperation, and other values necessary for establishing a shared society.
The “Shared Language” program was founded by Givat Haviva 10 years ago to improve Arab students’ fluency in spoken Hebrew. The program is based on bringing native Hebrew-speaking teachers into Arab schools to teach the language, after focused training to give them the needed skills for this specialized challenge.
The program was developed from an awareness of the power of language acquisition and cultural familiarity – as a way to reduce hostility and fear, as a basic tool for socio-economic progress, and as necessary for the existence of a shared society. The program’s goal is to deepen Arab students’ knowledge of Hebrew language and culture in order to strengthen their ability to succeed in Israeli society.
A unique course offered by The Jewish-Arab Center for Peace at Givat Haviva in cooperation with the Hebrew University’s Maggid Institute for External Studies, accompanied by the Accord Center. The course is intended for educators (in formal and informal education) who want to acquire tools and training in facilitating group dialogue, with an emphasis on developing skills and the ability to intervene with groups of youth.
Course participants learn theory, and get active experience in a dynamic group and facilitating peers, gaining skill with a variety of tools and techniques. Those interested can also take art in a facilitated practicum to complete the certification, and graduates who fulfill all of the requirements receive a certificate from the Maggid Institute and the opportunity to join Givat Haviva’s team of educational program facilitators.
The Jewish-Arab Center for Peace Principals’ Program is the first of its kind, offering school principals to take part in the thought and creation of a future shared society. The program grew out of the needs of the complex reality, and offers tools for dealing with the additional challenges brought by the war:
– Managing complex discourse
– Dealing with expressions of violence and racism
– Promoting values of shared society within the school
– Encouraging development of joint initiatives
The program is made up of sis meetings in the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace at Givat Haviva, and includes a tour, a seminar, and guest speakers, in addition to enrichment workshops in the field of shared living.

The program centers on Jewish and Arab youth learning photography together. It was developed by the Shared Art Center, and has been running from 2000 to the present. In the program, youth learn the language of photography and through it develop the ability to observe the other side in depth and not just in breadth, to see what is common and not just what is different, and to understand that they share many common experiences simply by being youth. All of this has enormous significance considering that these youth are the future generation of society in Israel.
✔️Fascinating photography workshops

The “Challenges” Program is part of Government Decision 922, which was adopted at the end of 2015 to promote informal education in Arab society. As part of this decision, local authorities are budgeted to build and operate master plans for activities after school hours in the formal education system.
Exposure to diverse and high-quality content during free time plays a significant role in acquisition of social skills, formation of a social and moral identity, and creation of opportunities to dream about what the future can look like. The program aims to promote activities that will include such content and allow children and youth in Arab society to develop personally and collectively, to form a sense of belonging, and to develop responsibility and social involvement in both small and large circles.

The lnew eadership programs at the Jewish-Arab Center for Peace, launched in January 2025, offer the general public the opportunity to take part in educational initiatives that seek to shape the face of Israeli society.
The program aims to promote shared society, tolerance, and acceptance of others in a space that already represents all segments of the population in Israel – the soccer fields. The Israeli program was inspired by similar projects in various countries and operates with the support of UEFA and in cooperation with the Football Association, the league administration, and the soccer clubs in Israel.
A central part of the program is the operation of a network of observers who report on incidents of violence and racism on soccer fields, following which reports are published that help indicate the scope of the events and raise awareness of the phenomenon. In addition, training is held for coaches and professional teams, content is delivered in schools in cooperation with the Football Association, and initiatives for international cooperation are promoted. All of this has the aim of improving the sport culture in Israel and turning soccer fields into a unifying and connecting space for all fans.
Matan Segal, the program’s director, was a guest at the Knesset State Audit Committee (February 3, 2025), where he called on enforcement officials and decision makers to act to eradicate racism and violence from soccer fields:
תוכנית ‘המעבדה לחברה משותפת’ נועדה לבסס מציאות שבה שונוּת היא מקור לעשייה, לצמיחה ולחוסן חברתי. התוכנית מציעה מרחב פעולה שבו אנשים ממגוון זהויות לומדים להכיר, להעמיק ולפתח חיבורים בין ארגונים, קהילות ויוזמות למען חברה משותפת וטובה יותר.
